Carry Index Patch Notes

A running log of changes to the Carry Index and its Trip Planner. Internal reference; newest first.

v1.3.1 · Sept 28, 2026

Theme: UC V5.6 - Carry Index v1.3 (plug fix)

  • Changed: 62 product URLs cleaned up (wrong Magazine B issue numbers, placeholder "untitled" names, leftover "copy" / "preorder" / "-1" endings, typos, ® symbols). Every old URL redirects to the new one.
  • Fixed: Outer layer top pick pointed at the jacket's old URL; now convert-wind-stopper-jacket.
  • Improved: Code cleanup in the planner: removed the unused "Not the right place?" suggestions (Visual Crossing returns a single best match), an unused catalog field and leftover weather fields. No change to what shoppers see.

v1.3 · Sept 28, 2026

  • Fixed: Plug type showed "Check locally" for places like Reykjavík and Tokyo. The planner now reads the country from the local time zone the weather service returns, which covers every country.
  • Fixed: "Also pack" treated a city name as the country in entry-requirement reminders.
  • Improved: Tech pouch picks widened from 2 to 14 in-stock options. Pouches that work as tech organizers now carry the type:tech-organizer tag and join automatically.
  • Changed: Dry bag and hi-vis pools now use scheme tags (type:dry-bag, feature:hi-vis) instead of planner: tags.
  • New: This patch notes page, linked quietly at the bottom of the Carry Index.

v1.2 · Sept 28, 2026

Theme: UC V5.5 - Carry Index v1.2

  • New: "Also pack" redesigned as grouped cards (Clothes, For the weather, Don't forget, Wear on travel day, Laundry) with a progress bar, Reset, and collapsible panels on phones.
  • New: Sort toggle for "Also pack": by Type, or by Where it goes (Wear it / In the bag / Keep on you). The shopper's choice is remembered in their browser.
  • Changed: Weather and place lookup moved from Open-Meteo to Visual Crossing (free plan, commercial use allowed). API key is a setting on the Trip planner section in the theme editor.
  • New: Fallback mode. If the weather service is down, over its daily limit, or has no key, the list still builds without weather and plug info.
  • Fixed: "Show N more" didn't hide the extra packing-list rows.
  • Fixed: Bag card could show 20–30L while listing 30–45L bags when no 20–30L bags were in stock.
  • Fixed: US territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI) no longer trigger a passport reminder.
  • Improved: Accessibility labels, theme colors in the add-on, and ticks reset on each new list.

v1.1 · Sept 27, 2026

  • New: "Also pack" checklist for things we don't sell: clothing counts, weather layers, travel-day items, documents, commute basics.
  • New: Laundry plan (Machine / Sink wash / No laundry) for trips of 4+ days.
  • New: Week-kit formula (4 tops, 2 bottoms, 5 sets, 2 shoes) shown in the bag size card.
  • New: Laundry-aware bag size: 4–7 day carry-on trips with a wash suggest 20–30L.
  • New: Shorter first view: 8 packing-list items with "Show more", 4 forecast days on phones.
  • New: "Why?" links to the packing blog series: How to Pack Light for Any Trip, The Week Kit, Laundry on the Road, Packing Cubes, Before You Fly Abroad, The NYC Commute Kit.

v1.0 · Sept 27, 2026

  • New: Carry Index relaunched at /pages/carry-index with the Trip Planner as the front screen and the bag guide and FAQ below. The old bag database was retired; /pages/bag-database redirects here.
  • New: Trip and Daily commute modes, live weather, plug types, bag size by trip length, and packing lists built only from in-stock products, with add to cart.
  • New: "Planner ·" collections feed each packing-list item; new products join automatically when their tags match.

Backlog

  • "Checked bag" slot in the Where it goes view when Carry-on only is off.
  • Link "Detergent sheets" once stocked; sink stoppers later.
  • Thin pools: plug adapter, dry bag, umbrella (one product each), hi-vis.
  • Tighten the Trunk organizer pool (currently mostly totes).
  • Versatile shirt URLs (short-sleeve still at copy-of-versatile-shirt-1).
  • Move "Also pack" wording into theme-editor blocks.
  • Swap in our own photos on the blog posts.
