You've seen it, you've heard about it, you may even own it! Debuting in 2021, ECOPAK™ by Challenge Sailcloth has been making waves in the EDC bag community as an environmentally friendly alternative to X-PAC® fabric.

X-PAC® (created by sailcloth manufacturer Dimension-Polyant) has been a fabric long favored by bag designers and enthusiasts for its durability, toughness and waterproof properties, while still maintaining a light weight. If they're using this type of material on sail boats, then you can imagine just how great it is at repelling the elements! (Not to mention, that diamond X-pattern looks really cool!)

For people who are more environmentally conscious though, U.S. manufacturer Challenge Sailcloth has come out with ECOPAK™, which maintains all the same waterproof, lightweight and durable properties as X-PAC®, but with a more environmentally friendly construction process. 

Just how much more environmentally friendly? All components of ECOPAK™ fabric are made with 100% recycled polyester, in addition to solvent-free adhesives. Meter for meter, over 20 plastic bottles are recycled and more than 450g of carbon dioxide is saved in the creation of ECOPAK™.

That's not to say that  X-PAC® by itself isn't environmentally friendly, of course!
